About Sea & Soil Farm in Wellfleet

About Us

Since I was young, I wanted to be a florist. It was such a beautiful occupation. You are surrounded by beauty all day, then share that beauty with someone else, for them to enjoy. Childhood daydreams aside, my adult career didn't start in the floral industry. I made the career switch from a hospitality professional to flower farmer and floral designer in 2018.

Currently I live year round in Wellfleet, Cape Cod, Massachusetts. In 2018, I enrolled in Erin Benzakin’s Floret Online workshop course. Through this course I saw what locally grown flowers could be, and how the majority of the flower industry is like most modern industries, mass-produced and environmentally incautious. The typical local flower farmer takes on nature and a huge industrial infrastructure to bring us exquisite flowers.

I found land at a friend’s place in Wellfleet and grew dahlias, asters, sunflowers, strawflowers, zinnias, apple of Peru, cinnamon basil, honeywort, marigolds, and snapdragons to name a few. Luckily, my friend also lent me use of her peonies, her climbing roses, and her butterfly bush. I signed up for the Wellfleet Farmer’s Market and borrowed a table, and a canopy tent.

Through the Wellfleet Farmer’s Market I learned so much. I learned that I could grow local flowers, arrange them, and sell them to people who loved them. I learned that I really do love connecting with people. I learned that practical experience is my best teacher. I learned to put myself out there, and I know that I’ve got so much to learn. The opportunity to learn something new is so invigorating. The excitement I feel when I get a new tip on how to grow or harvest a flower makes me so much more engaged in life. As Sea & Soil Design continues to grow, I hope to grow too.
